Many people who has made a will, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, named their will executor, but has not told the executor.
Executors are typically trusted friends or relatives who are tasked with sorting out your will after you die. This includes doing the administration and distributing assets to your beneficiaries.
However, three out of four people writing wills don’t discuss their wishes with loved ones, and many also fail to inform their chosen executors.
What should you tell your executor?
1. Discuss your decisions and why you have made them.
2. Let them know that their role is important and will require them to do things in a timely manner.
3. Discuss other executors included in your will, if any.
4. Express your desire for your executor to work with others to get things done.
5. Don’t forget to thank your executor.
